SHOREWOOD - To encourage summer learning, State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel is launching a Summer Reading Club for children and young people who live in the 49th State Senate District.

“Reading over the summer helps students stay engaged, build confidence and return to the classroom ready to learn,” said Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “My Summer Book Club encourages children to discover books they enjoy while creating healthy learning habits that can last far beyond summer break.”

SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel advanced a measure to set clear educational standards for individuals seeking child care director positions, making sure families across Illinois can trust that those overseeing their children’s care and development meet a high-quality professional preparation benchmark.

“We want to keep our children safe, and regulating who can watch over them at day care centers is a way to help with that,” said Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “This bill not only sets educational benchmarks for child care directors, but it also makes sure that day care centers have a way to stay open if they cannot fill that position right away.”

SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel advanced a measure to ensure equitable access to early literacy development for children who are deaf, hard of hearing or deaf-blind.

“Every student has their own needs, and we need to make certain that students are not blocked from learning key language skills,” said Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “This measure ensures that all children have equitable language development access.”

SHOREWOOD – State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel announced that Plainfield will receive $250,000 through Illinois’ Safe Routes to School program to improve pedestrian safety and expand opportunities for safely walking and biking in the community.

“Encouraging students to walk and bike to school helps emphasize the importance of health and community,” Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood). “When we make it safer for children to walk and bike to school, they are more likely to do so, setting them up for healthy lifestyles.”
